San Francisco. August 21, 2005. Darren Blaney’s You May Now Kiss… My Sass…?, a satirical tragicomedy that humorously explores the paradoxes and trials surrounding the political struggle for gay marriage in today’s never-a-dull-moment world, will play as part of the 2005 San Francisco Fringe Festival.

Dboyflare Productions will present You May Now Kiss… My Sass…? on September 10th, 12th, 14th, and 17th at the Exit Stage Left Theater at 156 Eddy Street as part of the 2005 San Francisco Fringe Festival. You May Now Kiss… My Sass…? features multiple characters involved in the possible nuptial union of Paul Braire, a gay republican, to his lover Billy Bud, an African-American Private currently serving in Iraq. In the show, Mr. Blaney portrays both characters, as well as many others: Paul’s radical feminist mother who disapproves of marriage in general, a zealous HIV+ wedding planner, a runaway gay teen with a crystal-meth addiction and some dangerous career aspirations, an idealistic lesbian high-school teacher, a campy news reporter and polyamorist who supports gay marriage rights, a rioting Christian who will stop at nothing to protect society from the menace of LGBT equality, a stressed-out artist who regrets offering to bake the cake, and Mayor Gimme Folsom himself, to name a few. Will the cake ever get frosted? Will the ice sculptures arrive on time? Are queers supposed to give each other stag parties? Discover the answers to these questions and more in this amusing and thought-provoking show that attempts to address not only the perennial dilemma “If Boy Scouts can tie the knot, why can't I?” but also to confront the more challenging issue “Who in this world deserves happiness?”

You May Now Kiss… My Sass…? is Mr. Blaney’s second original one-person show to premier at the San Francisco Fringe Festival. His much-loved debut show, The Bird Club: Letter to Sandra Bernhard played in the 2001 Festival as well as on tour at various other venues to enthusiastic audiences throughout Northern California. A graduate of Reed College, ACT, and UCSC, Darren is currently a 2nd-year doctoral student in Dramatic Arts and Performance Studies at Univesity of California, Davis.

Now in its 14th year, the San Francisco Fringe Festival brings fresh, exciting theatre of all kinds to open-minded audiences of all persuasions. Often over-the-top and under-the-radar of traditional theatre, "The Fringe" has its rabid devotees - and wins more fans every year. The 2005 San Francisco Fringe Festival, September 7 through 18, brings over 40 different shows to six venues in downtown San Francisco, all within easy walking distance of Union Square and the Powell Street BART station. Fringe venues are EXIT Theatre & EXIT Stage Left (156 Eddy), EXIT on Taylor (277 Taylor), Original Joe's Restaurant (144 Taylor), Off Market Theater (965 Mission) and Jon Sims Center (1519 Mission). For complete listings of venues, shows, and times, go to www.sffringe.org. Or call the fringe hotline at (415) 673-3847. Tickets are $9 or less per show and ten show passes are $55.
